Green Eye Festival – a cinematic gaze into the nature that watches us
Green Eye Festival (GEF) – Nature is Watching You – is a unique festival program launched in 2017 by the Public Institution Krka National Park to bring the public closer to the themes of environmental protection and sustainable development through engaging film content.
In the Croatian context, GEF represents a rare example of an environmental film festival organized by a public institution whose primary mission is nature conservation, giving it special authenticity and credibility.
Over its previous editions, the festival has grown into a place of dialogue, exchange of ideas, and inspiration. Numerous international documentary films have been screened on the big screen, powerfully addressing issues such as environmental pollution, climate change, degradation of natural habitats, and the role of the individual in preserving the planet, as well as opportunities for sustainable development.
The festival program is regularly enriched with panel discussions featuring experts in ecology, science, and audiovisual arts, with particular attention devoted to students and young people. This very combination of education, nature, and cultural context is evident at locations such as the Visovac Monastery, situated on a small island in the middle of the Krka River, where the coexistence of man and nature has been nurtured for centuries.
The Green Eye Festival is not just a cultural event; it is also a powerful incentive for reflection and action toward nature conservation.
The next edition of the festival will take place from January 22 to 24, 2026, with a special focus on biodiversity. The program will cover topics related to the importance of pollinators – bees, butterflies, bumblebees, and other species – and their crucial role in preserving ecosystems and food security.
Through film screenings, discussions, and educational content, the audience will have the opportunity to learn about the consequences of climate change, pesticide use, and habitat loss, as well as what each of us can do to contribute to maintaining natural balance.
