Krka National Park has submitted its impressive and inspiring story titled “When water builds and man preserves: 17 tufa steps towards a sustainable future” to the prestigious international competition TOP 100 Sustainability Stories organized by Green Destinations.
By entering the TOP 100 selection, Krka National Park has joined an elite group of the most successful and innovative examples of sustainable tourism from around the world. The story is currently competing for the special People’s Choice Award, which is presented as part of the Green Destinations Story Awards at the world-renowned tourism fair ITB Berlin 2025.
This story highlights the unique harmony between nature and human activity in Krka National Park, where travertine barriers and waterfalls symbolize the power of water that builds, while responsible management and conservation represent humanity’s role in protecting this treasure. Among the park’s numerous cultural and historical gems stands out the island of Visovac with the Franciscan Monastery of Our Lady of Mercy and the Church of Our Lady of Visovac, which serves as an oasis of peace and spirituality in the middle of Visovac Lake.
