Krka National Park

All about Krka National Park - tickets, excursions and getting to Visovac

Krka National Park covers approximately 109 km² along the lower course of the Krka River in Šibenik-Knin County. It was declared a national park in 1985 and is renowned for its magnificent waterfalls, lush vegetation, and rich biodiversity.

The most famous feature is Skradinski Buk – a series of 17 travertine cascades reaching a height of 46 meters, where visitors can swim in crystal-clear pools during the summer (from April to October). Other attractions include Roški Slap, the archaeological site of Burnum (a Roman military camp), Visovac Lake, and numerous hiking trails.

The park is a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its unique karst phenomena and cultural heritage.
A special place within the park is occupied by the island of Visovac with its Franciscan monastery of the same name – a spiritual jewel set amid emerald canyons.

Magical connection: Visovac Monastery in the heart of Krka

The Monastery of Our Lady of Mercy was founded in 1445 when Franciscans, fleeing from the Ottomans, found refuge on a small island in the middle of Visovac Lake.
Today, it is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Croatia. The monastic museum preserves exceptionally valuable items: handwritten codices, seven incunabula, an edition of Aesop’s Fables from 1487 (one of only three surviving copies in the world), and the saber of the Croatian hero Vuk Mandušić from the 17th century.

The gardens, bell tower, and library offer a profound sense of peace and contemplation.
Visovac is the spiritual heart of Krka National Park – a place where nature and faith perfectly intertwine.
