Dear faithful and pilgrims,
Pope Leo XIV has decreed that the period from January 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, be celebrated as the Year of Saint Francis, during which all Christian faithful are invited to be inspired by and follow the example of the Saint of Assisi. On this occasion, the Apostolic Penitentiary grants a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, to all who devoutly participate in this extraordinary jubilee.
The grace of this special year is offered to all the faithful, without exception, who, with a soul detached from sin, make a pilgrimage to any Franciscan monastic church or to any place of worship dedicated to Saint Francis anywhere in the world.
Conditions for receiving the indulgence
(for oneself or for the deceased)
One prayer for the intentions of the Pope, reaffirming one’s communion with the Church, whose foundation and visible center of unity is the Roman Pontiff.
Sacramental confession, so as to be in the state of grace (within eight days before or after);
Participation in Holy Mass and reception of Holy Communion;
Pilgrimage visit to any Franciscan monastic church or place of worship dedicated to Saint Francis anywhere in the world, where the profession of faith is renewed through the prayer of the Creed, reaffirming one’s Christian identity;
Prayer of the Our Father, reaffirming the dignity of being children of God received in Baptism;
